Greetings ‐ Minamino Toru

Nothing happens by chance.
Rather than surrendering myself to destiny,
I would like to control and create my own destiny.

My name is Tohru Minamino and I have been appointed to preside over the Department of Cardiovascular Biology and Medicine at the Graduate School of Medicine of Juntendo University.
This department started in 1968 under the presidency of Professor Kazuo Kitamura with the establishment of internal medicine as a separate area of specialization. Thereafter, under Professor Hiroshi Yamaguchi, who was a pioneer of coronary angiography, it developed into a base for diagnosis and treatment of ischemic heart disease. Under Professor Hiroyuki Daida, it further developed into a department that provides advanced cardiovascular care in a wide range of fields. I would like to continue developing the department while maintaining traditional values and incorporating new ideas.
In fact, my childhood aspirations were to pursue a career in medicine, in particular to become a family doctor and support the medical care of local residents. However, through various experiences such as training and medical treatment at university hospitals and related hospitals, medical research at home and abroad, education for medical students, resident doctors and graduate students at universities, my desire to contribute to providing a wide range of medical practice for more patients and developing new diagnostic and treatment methods grew. In order to realize that dream, I would like to nurture many excellent human resources by maximizing the abilities of medical students, enhancing medical care centered on university hospitals, and conducting innovative medical research, thereby contributing to medical care in Japan and around the world. In addition, my goal is to disseminate new medical knowledge and insights to the world.
